Gymnast Spotlight

Amaya Cofre

Each month GKC will feature a gymnast who choreographer Soomi Kim has worked with. We’ll get to know the gymnast, the inspirations behind their routines and what makes them sparkle. This month we feature Level 9 gymnast, Amaya Cofre.

“I’ve worked with Amaya for about 7 years. I watched her grow from a very little, shy compulsory competitor to a radiant and powerful optional gymnast. She emits joy and happiness and when Amaya takes the floor, you can’t not watch her and smile. Very few gymnasts can perform with good comedic timing; Amaya can do this. I wanted to capture her comedic gift in her routines. She is a blast to work with because she is so adventurous, has an open mind & heart and physically she can do just about anything! One of the many things I love about Amaya is that she has a penchant for the absurd which manifests in many delightful ways.”

– Soomi Kim, Choreographer

A note from Soomi…

Welcome to our first blog posting! The last 2 months have been an amazing building process for us at GKC. I feel optimistic about the direction we are headed and I’m especially excited about the launch of our monthly blog! I’m really looking forward to how we can engage our immediate circle of incredible gymnasts and coaches, as they collectively have a vast range of experiences and knowledge.
